The Director and the Project Manager of the delegation of MEGA Sistemas in Panama, attend the II ICEX Meeting of Spanish Companies.

This forum has been inaugurated by their majesties the princes Don Felipe and Doña Letizia who started their official trip in Panama, on Wednesday 3rd October in this II ICEX Meeting of Spanish Companies, in which the investment opportunities in projects in the field of infrastructures, energy and water treatment, among other sectors, were announced.

Before the Panamanian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Rómulo Roux, and of Trade and Industry, Ricardo Quijano, His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias highlighted the presence in Panama of Spanish companies, which “have responded to Panama’s call by contributing to making Spain its main economic partner in terms of the importance and scope of its tenders and investments”.

Below we reproduce part of Don Felipe’s speech:

“More than 250 Spanish companies have already established themselves with a total investment of approximately 3,000 million Balboas and a total of public contracts worth 5,000 million Balboas, creating more than 15,000 new direct jobs in an economy that offers high rates of employment. The presence is very varied, with large multinational groups of Spanish origin, but also with many small and medium-sized companies, some of which are undertaking their first international experience here. Furthermore, we are proud that the Panamanian government has trusted Spanish companies for some of its most emblematic projects, such as the expansion of the Canal, the construction of the Metro, hospitals and wind farms.

It is a well-known fact that our firms and professionals are highly qualified to meet the needs of foreign markets and that they have become world leaders in many sectors, particularly construction and highly complex infrastructures, but also in others as important as energy, banking, telecommunications, insurance, the agri-food industry and many others.

On the other hand, it is true that the economic situation in Spain is very difficult and complex, and that the changing situation of the financial markets and the uncertainties generated around the Eurozone have not helped to improve the situation or to bring the recovery closer in time, but our companies and our professionals show us every day their capacity to create jobs, opting for the internationalisation of their businesses and competing successfully in competitive and demanding markets such as the Panamanian one.

That is why I would like to say to Spanish entrepreneurs and professionals that the Crown and the Spanish people as a whole are proud of the great work you are doing in many parts of the world. You have our full support, and also our affection. That is why I am delighted to inaugurate this meeting, one of the objectives of which is precisely to help you to open up new markets and forge new alliances and business opportunities.

I know that you are aware of the responsibility you are taking on and that you are also grateful for the trust placed in you by countries and governments such as the Panamanian government when it comes to tackling its major economic development projects. I would also like to say that the Panamanian government and people can be satisfied with their choice, as they have opted for some of the most capable and modern companies in their sectors that Spain has in the world market.

I will end by reiterating my best wishes to all of you”.
